Akshay Kumar is able to swing between the contrasting flavours the way only he can. Just like Garam Masala, he’s stuck with some fine people in one room and struggling to get hold of each of them and get rid of them too. He enjoys seeing people being stripped naked of their truths but also tries to hide his own dirty linens. And there’s no other actor who can pull this farce off and make it look convincing. Comedy is truly serious business, it’s no Khel.

Performances apart from Akshay too are top notch. Taapsee Pannu finally gets to break out of the serious actor image and shines as the social media addict dealing with issues in her marriage due to no children. Ammy Virk, as her husband, gets a lot to do and he manages to deliver. Aditya Seal and Pragya Jaiswal (who is being introduced with this film) are easy on the eyes, and convincing as the couple dealing with a tragedy.

At 2 hours 30 minutes, Khel Khel Mein is simply too long. While the first half keeps the momentum high with comic punches, the second half might just put you to sleep. The climax on the film is overdrawn. If you are looking for a nuanced exploration of marriage and what the institution stands for, Khel Khel Mein is not the film for you.

The movie does have shortcomings. The screenplay looks dragged in the second half. The music or the songs aren't memorable. The only popular song from the album, Do U Know, plays in the end credits. The film isn't a clean family comedy as there are double-meaning and innuendo-laden one-liners. Apart from that, Khel Khel Mein deserves applause for giving out a laugh-riot that also talks about homosexuality, abusive work relationships, and troubled marriage life sensitively.
