1. Times of India -
Rating Score -> 3.5/5
The film is an Akshay Kumar showcase from start to finish. The actor delivers a nuanced performance, effortlessly portraying a range of emotions — disappointment, frustration, gratitude, helplessness, and love.
2. Times Now News -
Rating Score -> 3.5/5
Akshay Kumar takes the role made famous by Suriya and adds his own spin to it. The actor brings forth Vir's almost unhinged passion to see his dream come to light, especially after his estrangement with his father.
3. First Post -
Rating Score -> 4/5
Akshay Kumar’s performance added depth to the character of Vir Jagannath Mhatre, a simple guy from an interior village of Maharashtra. From the makers of Airlift, Baby, OMG 2, Toilet, and Jai Bhim, Sarfira is an incredible story set in the world of startups and aviation. The film is all set to inspire the common man to dream big and to chase their dreams even if the world calls you crazy.
4. News 18 -
Rating Score -> 4.5/5
Sarfira is a rather beautiful coming together of two schools of cinema – one that makes you whistle and clap and still silently appreciate its nuanced storytelling. It’s tear-jerking, inspiring, gratifying, wholesome and so much more. And it will most definitely help if you don’t let the extraordinary Soorarai Pottru colour your opinions.
5. Hindustan Times -
Rating Score -> n/a
At 155 minutes, Sarfira is a tad stretched and long, especially in the second half when the story has already taken off, but takes forever to land. A crisper narrative and some clever cuts at the editing table would have helped. The songs seemed a bit too unnecessary and could have easily been avoided to keep the story more focused and compact. Despite these lows, Sarfira soars high and keeps you invested in the story, and at the end, you are left smiling and feeling proud of Vir's achievements.
6. India Today -
Rating Score -> 4/5
Akshay's portrayal of Vir Mhatre shows strife and struggle that often makes for engaging cinema. Despite his superstar status, he becomes the common man and shines in several scenes that allow him to emote and perform. Radhika Madan is absolutely brilliant in a performance that makes you wonder why filmmakers aren't giving her such diverse roles.
7. DNA -
Rating Score -> 4/5
Inspirational stories have the power to lift people, and Akshay Kumar's Sarfira is one such tale that deserves attention. It follows the life of Vir Mhatre (an ex-Air Force officer and the founder of Deccan Airlines, played by Akshay Kumar), a man from a Maharashtra village with an ambition to launch a low-cost airline for people who can't afford to travel by plane.
8. Indian Express -
Rating Score -> 2.5/5
Akshay Kumar stars in creaky melodrama that’ll remind you of a 60s weepie. The film is only interested in fronting its hero. Akshay Kumar, who is in practically every frame of the film, isn't actively terrible, but he doesn't do anything here that he hasn't done before.
9. NDTV -
Rating Score -> 2/5
Akshay Kumar's Film Does Not Exactly Soar Above The Clouds. The chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Radhikka Madan is nowhere near the self-propelling kind that Suriya and Aparna Balamurali achieved. That drags the film down quite a few notches.
10. Rediff -
Rating Score -> 2/5
It's never a good sign when the villain starts making more sense than the hero. And often the nature of Veer's actions strike more as sanki (eccentric) than sarfira (hot-headed).
11. India TV -
Rating Score -> 4/5
Overall, 'Sarfira' is a must-watch film, which is successful in giving many messages. The story of the film gives the spirit to fight challenges, hence, we are giving it 4 stars.
12. Komal Nahta -
Rating Score -> n/a
Sarfira is an average entertainer but its box-office prospects are not even average but rather bleak because of the following reasons: promotion and, therefore, awareness about the film and its release this week are low; the Hindi dubbed version of the original Tamil film (titled Udaan) is available on Netflix and has already been seen by lakhs of people
13. The Hindu -
Rating Score -> n/a
Akshay Kumar is on autopilot in this ‘Soorarai Pottru’ remake. While the subject remains relevant and director Sudha Kongara’s storytelling retains its verve, the social context and regional texture that made the Suriya-starrer special get diluted in the Hindi version
14. Mid-day -
Rating Score -> 2/5
Sure, this is another biopic, and that too a remake—both lowest hanging fruits. To be fair, I would’ve recommended Sarfira still—if I hadn’t already watched Soorarai Pottru
