The problem with Indian 2 is that it is filled with writing that lacks nuance and characters who are caricatures. Even in terms of scenes, all the visual excesses that Shankar throws at them - grand sets, visual effects, and frames filled with people - hardly touch us as there's no emotional connect.

#Hindustani2 *HINDI*: OUTDATED. Rating: ⭐️½ Interesting ideas don’t always make for interesting films... Archaic writing is the biggest culprit here... Director #Shankar misses a golden opportunity... Even #KamalHaasan's wonderful act cannot salvage it. #Hindustani2Review #Indian2

Shankar is an amazing filmmaker and his filmography is enough to prove that, however, Hindustani might turn out to be his weakest movie as the topic itself is very dated. With a runtime of 3 hours, there are several scenes which make you feel absurd. While the film is strong in all the technical aspects, it fails to create high points or elevations.

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
Shankar, who’s known for his risk-taking endeavours chooses to stay in his comfort zone with this verbose script. His idea to evoke nostalgia is truly sweet but that’s not enough to turn water into wine. For those who want to relive the memories of the 1996 film, you can go watch the sequel. As for the rest, you can give it a miss unless you like moral sermons, flashiness, the beauty of hollowness, and things that are a little too extra and have a tolerance level of more than zero.

Indian 2 desperately tries to combine the old and the new, to present to us a story that’ll be appealing to the younger audience. Kamal Haasan says he’s fighting for India’s second Independence in the film. But the audience is left fighting to figure out what’s good in this misfire of a film.
6. India Today -
Rating Score -> 2/5
Kamal Haasan-Shankar film is an emotionless social commentary. Director Shankar's sequel to the 1996 hit film is an uninteresting commentary on worldly issues that are addressed in countless other films. Underneath the mess lies a promising idea, which is barely explored.
7. Indian Express -
Rating Score -> 1/5
Outmoded and outdated, Kamal Haasan-starrer is a three-hour time suck. Kamal Haasan’s prosthetics are still as annoying, and Indian 2 takes itself and its hero so seriously that you miss the forced humour of the original.
8. India TV -
Rating Score -> 2.5/5
The dismal 'Indian 2' falls short of the high standards set by its predecessor. Moreover, it's an alarming situation for Shankar to prep well for the third part. The movie struggles to be real and dramatic, even while it tries to deliver sincere sentiments. But not the actors or technicians, it's the director that fails us.

Hindustani 2 is a colossal waste of time, money and resources. It will entail huge losses and will be remembered as a disaster.

Kamal Haasan, Shankar’s underwhelming sequel relies more on its past legacy and future promise. Despite a barrage of ideas that usually work wonders in Shankar’s films, most of them in Kamal Haasan-led ‘Indian 2’ fall flat thanks to a disengaging plot needlessly stretched to milk the upcoming ‘Indian 3’
11. Money Control -
Rating Score -> 1.5/5
Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 is simply insufferable. The political commentary falls flat on its face. It is a textbook example of why good intentions don’t always translate to good cinema.
12. The Week -
Rating Score -> 2/5
An extremely boring and painful affair that offers no takeaways. Shankar's decision to stick to the old template has backfired
13. Deccan Herald -
Rating Score -> 2/5
'Indian 2' falters because it gets the mix all wrong. It has some of the Shankar essentials, that could’ve set it up for solid masala entertainment but it takes a dated, preachy tone and addresses familiar questions with tedious calls for mob justice.
