Avatar 2 has taken an extraordinary start at the Indian Box Office on day one. The film has been outstanding in South India and smashed all existing box office records for a Hollywood film. The business in North India was good and bound to be better on day two.
Avatar: The Way of Water collected 40 crore nett from all languages on Friday. This is huge considering the major business has come from South India. If North India joins the party then God knows where collections will move.
First Day occupancy was around 50% which is excellent considering Friday was a working day and the film was released on nearly 4000 screens. Also, ticket prices were all time high. South India reported an outstanding 70% occupancy. North India reported 30-35% occupancy for day one.
North India belt will see a good jump as initial reports of the film is on the positive side. However, as the film has taken a bumper start in South India on Friday, we may see some drop on Saturday for obvious reasons. Let's hope that if there is any drop then it is in the minimal range.
Avatar 2 is now eyeing 120-130 crore nett in the first weekend. Film lifetime collection is on track to touch 300 crore nett in India with solid trending from day 2 onwards. Again it is too early to make any statement on the lifetime business as we will have a clear picture after Day 4 (1st Monday) and Day 8 (2nd Friday) results are out.
