Liger Hindi version has taken a poor start at the box office on Friday (1st Day) morning shows as early samples are coming in. With Liger, Vijay Deverakonda is making his big Bollywood debut and expectations are high. But it has not transformed into the box office numbers at least in the morning shows.
Liger has opened to 10-12% occupancy in the morning shows of day 1. The opening is better in Tier 2 and 3 cities and towns. The opening is horrible in metros and other big cities. Samples are from multiplexes only and reports from single screens are awaited at this moment.
Liger should see an increase in occupancy as the day progresses. But the problem is that starting point is low and the film will need significant growth in occupancy to have a decent first day. The film will need to double or even triple its occupancy in the latter half of the day to salvage some pride.
The problem for Liger is plenty. Firstly, the film's theatrical trailer was below average and that failed to create the necessary buzz and curiosity. Secondly, it has received extremely negative reviews from critics. In fact, critic's reviews are easily one of the worst. However, it is also known that critic's reviews hardly matter to the box office performance. Hence, if the film's ground level word of mouth is decent to good then it can easily recover the ground. Let's hope for that and see how things proceed in the second half of the day. Stay tuned for more updates on Liger.
