Both Panditt and Kumra, able actors, are made to speak in a strong ‘Arabic’ accent which has no way not to slip. The only one who belongs to this universe is Kapoor, with his dialogue-delivery (‘tum jise karz kehte ho, Pathan usko apna farz maanta hai; tumko jo ehsaan lagta hai, momin ko imaan lagta hai’, and so on). The rest of it is creaky and cartoonish.

Khuda Haafiz runs on a formulaic template that is made better only by its leading man, Vidyut Jammwal's restrained performance. Makes for a decent one-time watch just to see the more dramatic side of the actor.

Faruk Kabir’s direction is alright. He seems to have lost grip in the second half as far as both, his direction and script are concerned. On the whole, Khuda Haafiz is an ordinary fare and will not make much of an impact.

The spirit of this film, for whatever it is worth, is best exemplified by the hero wishing a friend Khuda Haafiz with his hands folded to denote a namaste. That alone would have set Khuda Haafiz apart if only it had been a better film.

For an all-out action thriller, there’s a lot of fast-paced sucker punches and knife jabs thrown in with a generous dose of bullet showers. But somehow, it all doesn’t add up. Even with Hindi cinema’s suspension of reality, particularly on how much an action hero can endure, catching a bullet in the jugular in 2020 cannot be bandaged in the following scene. Even Khuda wouldn’t approve of it.

Khuda Haafiz, therefore, is not without flaws, but it works as an action thriller. Vidyut conveys the nervousness and fear of a man who has lost someone he loves. The dolly zooms and the Snorricam do add to the effect as well. Panic descends upon him when he gets the call, it shows in his eyes and shaking body. Even when the early shock subsides, he carries the nervousness with him. A by-the-book thriller, Khuda Haafiz is just entertaining enough. Dive even an inch deeper and the flaws are there for anyone to see.

Khuda Haafiz suffers from glaring continuity issues. When the time band shows ‘Three Months Later’ after a January 2008 scene, the film is in March 2008. The calendar shows ‘February 2008’ when the film is actually in March 2008. The makers also fail to recreate the 2007-2008 era – we see recent models of motor vehicles on a Lucknow road; LCD TVs, which got launched in early 2010s, are a common sight; the hoarding of Atal Samarpan Swasthya Mela, which was organised in December last year to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, irks. The carelessness shows and how!

There are a couple of scenes in the beginning where Vidyut Jammwal gives a glimpse of his latent potential, but Khuda Haafiz keeps oscillating between many emotions.

'Khuda Haafiz' is disappointing but has its moments, especially when Vidyut is in action with Nawab Shah. Annu Kapoor also steals the show. If you really want to see the movie, skip the first half and begin watching after 1:00:00 hours.

"Khuda Haafiz" talks of joblessness and recession, and tries spotlighting crime against women of the most sinister kind in a thriller format. That should have made the film an engaging watch for an audience of 2020. It isn't the case, mainly because the film is fixated on being dated rather than entertaining with a cutting-edge assuredness.
