EID is around the corner and we all are definitely missing the buzz and hysteria surrounding a big Salman Khan release in this festive period. If everything would have been normal we would have been fighting and struggling for Radhe tickets at the ticket counters. It has been a norm since Wanted that released in the year 2009 (except for the year 2013).
Prior to Wanted, Eid was just a normal period for the release of films. Before that it was mainly Diwali, Christmas and New Year period which were the most lucrative period for biggies to get released in theatres. But in the year 2009, Wanted released in theatres and after that EID also become a much sought after release period for producers.
From then on it has been a norm that Salman Khan will release his films on Eid. The only exception was 2013 when Chennai Express was released. And now in 2020 all thanks to coronavirus pandemic.
Salman Khan has a total of 10 movies that were released on Eid from 2009 to 2019. All the films barring Tubelight emerged as a Hit at the box office. Out of that 2 were All Time Blockbusters (Dabangg, Bajrangi Bhaijaan), 4 were Blockbusters (Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Sultan) and 1 emerged as a Super Hit (Wanted). Even his underperformance, Bharat (Hit) and Race 3 (Semi Hit) emerged as a Commerical Success at the box office.
No doubt all his fans are missing the mass hysteria at this time of the year. But the story goes the same for the producers, distributors, and exhibitors. They simply wait for this period to accumulate as much moolah as possible. Salman Khan is a box office guarantee and his films are a goldmine more especially in the Eid festive time.
Just imagine a few of the critics (which hardly matters) are bashing his film left and right on one side and on the other side there is a mass pandemonium both inside and outside the theatres.
We still remember the euphoria created at the release time of Ek Tha Tiger in 2012. ETT opened to 95-100% occupancy from morning shows itself which was simply unprecedented. No film thereafter has managed to open with that much occupancy to date. When the film was hardly taking double-digit opening in the year 2012, ETT created history by collecting an unimaginable 33 crore net approx on day one.
Yes, the picture is definitely gloomy and we feel the pain, even more so when theatres are closed this Eid and there is no Salman Khan film to watch in this festive time. Don't worry there is hope and hopefully there is something special await for all movie lovers and fans of Salman in 2021. :-)
